The original Independence Day was held in 1898 in present day Kawit, Cavite where General Emilio Aguinaldo read out the The Act of the Declaration of Independence.

The Philippines Independence Day is celebrated and is marked by a flag raising ceremony on the balcony of the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine, where the first Philippine flag was unfurled. IT is a national or regular holiday and all employees and workers, including government employees are entitled to rest day with pay. Other companies are required to pay double since it is a regular holiday.
